Nestled against <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lahague.com\/\">La Hague<\/a>, Port Racine (800 square meters) dips its toes into <a href=\"\/vacances-cotentin-normandie\/\">the English Channel<\/a>.<br \/>\nAnd despite its small size, it is well worth the detour: <strong>it is a place full of charm and history, a must-visit during your excursion<\/strong> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.encotentin.fr\/\">the Cotentin<\/a>! <\/span><b style=\"color: #888da8; letter-spacing: 0.2px;\"><\/b><br \/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Uz9XhnYH81U\" width=\"100%\" height=\"350\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><b class=\"\" style=\"color: #888da8; letter-spacing: 0.2px;\">A Bit of History<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888da8; letter-spacing: 0.2px;\">A funny little port&#8230; with a funny name. But Port Racine simply takes its name from a privateer: Fran\u00e7ois-M\u00e9dard Racine. In 1813, having become captain of the ship L&#8217;Embuscade, he anchored his boat at Saint Germain des Vaux and built the current jetty of Port Racine. Tucked back into the cape, it allowed him to scuttle passing ships and plunder them.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888da8; letter-spacing: 0.2px;\">After the death of the privateer Racine in 1817, Port Racine remained annexed to Saint Germain des Vaux. Its location continues to attract sailors, fishermen, and the curious: situated in what is known as &#8220;Little Ireland&#8221; at the tip of the Cotentin, it possesses a wild, Celtic charm and acts as a true hidden haven. Today, only boats less than 5.50 meters long and 2 meters wide are authorized to anchor there.<br \/>\nIt is still used by fishermen, with a limit of 25 boats maximum.  <\/span><b style=\"color: #888da8; letter-spacing: 0.2px;\"><\/b><\/p>\n<h2><b style=\"color: #888da8; letter-spacing: 0.2px;\">Discovering Port Racine<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888da8; letter-spacing: 0.2px;\">Even if you don&#8217;t have a pleasure boat or a fishing permit, you can still visit France&#8217;s smallest port, a point of local pride: you just need to arrive by land. For keen walkers, a coastal path, the GR 223, takes you there for a pleasant hike along the shoreline. You can also park in Saint Germain des Vaux and follow the Route du Pigeon, which will lead you to Port Racine in 20 minutes on foot.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888da8; letter-spacing: 0.2px;\">If you come by car, there is a parking lot near the port. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotel-lerguillere.com\/\">H\u00f4tel L&#8217;Erguill\u00e8re<\/a>, perched just above the port, offers an unobstructed view of Little Ireland and its ever-changing waters. You can also stop at Port Racine for a nap or a picnic, and continue your exploration toward the Nez de Jobourg cliffs or the Vauville Botanical Garden.
