Built on an old bunker, the Mémorial de Caen stands just a stone’s throw from a place steeped in history: the D-Day Landing Beaches. The Memorial’s museum trails trace the key moments of the major conflicts of the 20th century, from the early signs of World War II to its global spread. For an in-depth immersion, the exhibition features several period objects (costumes, photos), as well as various videos. The Mémorial extends its retrospective beyond World War II with an area dedicated to the Cold War, where remnants of the conflict are displayed: airplane parts, a thermonuclear bomb, and even two sections of the Berlin Wall!

Finally, to walk through significant historical sites, continue your visit with the memorial gardens and descend into General Richter’s Underground Bunker.

For 30 years, it has stood as a key testament to the 20th century and the wars that marked it.
