The Port-Bail harbor and dunes hike

During this 9 km walk, accessible to all, you can enjoy all the beauty Portbail has to offer:

  • Discover the famous Port-Bail harbor. As the English Channel tides in and out, it fills and empties with the sea, revealing sublime landscapes.
  • Admire the 13-arched bridge. It crosses the harbor from one end to the other. This architectural edifice blends into the natural setting. It links Port-Bail-sur-mer with the wild coast.
  • Walk along the Lindbergh dunes to the beach. This is your chance to observe the seabirds and other species that live on the Cotentin moors. Don’t forget your binoculars!

Although this hike is easy to access, you’ll need good shoes to get the most out of the sand dunes.

Port-Bail-sur-mer, a stage on the Mont-Saint-Michel trail

Port-Bail lies on the famous Chemin des Douaniers, making it a popular stopover for visitors who enjoy walking. Since 2019, the town has been classified as a Commune des Chemins du Mont-Saint-Michel. This distinction proves its attractiveness and its desire to satisfy visitors.

Running from Cherbourg to Mont-Saint-Michel, this trail offers walkers rare landscapes. Arriving at Port-Bail, you’ll enjoy an extraordinary panorama. Churches on the water’s edge, manor houses and a harbour home to many species: you’ll be delighted!

Here is a selection of our favourite monuments:

  • Notre-Dame church: its fortified bell tower dominates the harbour. Dating from the 11th century, it now hosts exhibitions and concerts. It is illuminated at dusk, enhancing the beauty of its architecture.
  • Gallo-Roman baptistery: located just behind the town hall. Discovered in 1956, it is the only baptistery to date in the northern part of France (above the Loire). It can be viewed from the outside all year round.
